Embark on a transformative journey where you will learn about Syntropic Farming which is a unique approach to manage land that is in harmony with nature. It is designed to mimic natural ecosystems. Prioritizing the available resources found on the land (plants, wood, leaves, compost) we will implement several designs. Participants will get a chance to learn the basics of the design process for an agroforestry system. Combining the different dimensions (i.e. stratification, ecological succession, density). For this purpose we will utilize a combination of digital tools such as iNaturalist, Google Earth Pro and Google Spreadsheets to develop designs. These practical skills do not require any prior experience or knowledge to acquire. But they have the potential to empower the participants to become valuable members in their communities, contributing towards the development of the lands and local ecosystems.
In this program we will also work with other methodologies such as biointensive farming and have the opportunity to understand the differences.
By the end of the program we expect the participants to have learnt the following objectives:
- An understanding of philosophical principles of syntropic farming;
- How to be resourceful and utilize the available resources on the land;
- The process of designing a agroforestry system;
- The functionality of the different species used in the designs;
- Practical knowledge about pruning, planting effectively, positioning plants correctly;
- The difference between planting by cuttings, plant and seed;
- Ecological concepts such as the different type of ecosystem elements, nutrient cycle, water cycle, food chain among others;
- Evaluate the health of an ecosystem and how to contribute to its regeneration.
